MUGLOBE · PROTOTYPE 15

A place to discover music.

This local prototype brings Ed’s vision of a world music atlas into a working globe. Its five music places are test examples from his account. A small set of artist-uploaded YouTube recordings lets you try playback; it is not a complete or ranked music catalogue.

The map

NASA Blue Marble satellite imagery supplies the natural-color surface, with terrain and ocean-depth shading. This cloud-free composite is stored locally. It is regional-scale imagery, not a live view.

Natural Earth reference geography provides countries, states and provinces, rivers, lakes, and cities. It is generalized atlas data, not a street map. Place names and borders are shown progressively with zoom.

Regions describe geographic listening environments across cities, countryside and connected communities. Their outlines and musical descriptions are editable. Genre popularity appears in the separate genre overlays. Region details includes the musical explanation, geographic reasoning and sources. Finer island geography uses the attributed sources listed below.

The story

The purple salsa choke overlay is a schematic illustration of the journey Ed described. It does not assert dates, exact routes, or measured cultural coverage.

Made to run locally

The imagery, geography, labels, fonts, and story artwork are served from this laptop. Playing music connects to YouTube and requires internet access. The connected music wiki and shared accounts are separate local services. The globe uses prepared geographic data and requires no paid map service.
